Ode to Dhaba

Once upon a time there was a little restaurant on a very busy street in a very busy city in a rather populated country. In this restaurant they served the most delicious Vegetable Malai Kofta, Dhal Makani, nan bread and chicken rolls; but the cream of the crop was the Doi Phuchka. Phuchka is a speciality of the region of Bengal and is the most popular snack food in Bangladesh. It consists of a hard outer shell made from chickpeas; this is then filled with a mixture of chickpeas, chile, onions and other strange looking spices. The best traditional Phuchka is available in New Market which is right downtown and is well worth a visit although traffic deters us Phuchka lovers from venturing down there too often. But in Dhaba they have a sprciality which is worth braving road 11 for - Phuchka the regular way but with spoons of the delicious yogurt found in Bangladesh.
Many a week I find myself digging into a dinner of Doi Phuckka, chicken roll and Vegtable Malai Kofta. For those of us who sometimes are too lazy to move off our balconies in the heat of the afternoon sun, the employees of Dhaba are too much obiliging as they bring all the delicious food to our doors. May we spend many more hours enjoying the wonderful food which Dhaba provides us and at the low prices which we greartly appreciate.
